Current Proposals

The re-development of the historic Weston-super-Mare Rugby Football Club; providing state of the art facilities alongside a vibrant mix of residential and commercial space.

StudioHIVE and Atlas Land are working together with Weston Super Mare Rugby Football Club to realise the potential of the land surrounding the club pitch.

StudioHIVE Architects have been commissioned to prepare the design for this proposal. The club re-development includes the provision of state of the art facilities; a new clubhouse serving all members which will include function and meeting rooms, a café opening onto the rec and a new grandstand overlooking the first team pitch. The clubhouse will also include a gym and physio facilities.

Further, a new suite of changing rooms will be provided for club and public use.

Additionally, 182 apartments will be provided whilst the site will also be home to the new Weston Central Health Centre, replacing the Graham Road GP Surgery.

Key Development Highlights:

  • A Health Centre including Pharmacy replacing the Graham Road GP (circa 36,000 sq.ft / 3,345 sq.m)

  • 182 one & two bed apartments

  • Ground floor commercial space with potential for a variety of uses; nursery space with outdoor area, gym, convenience store (8,000 sq.ft (750 sq.m) in total)

Why Weston Super Mare Rugby Football Club?

WSM RFC’s Vision is to invest in the Club and its existing facilities to provide an enhanced player and spectator experience, as well as realise their full potential as a club, with a long history and a vital community role in Weston-super-Mare. In addition, the club wish to provide a platform that provides a long-term sustainable future to enable it to fulfill this commitment in perpetuity.

Location and Connectivity:

WSM RFC is ideally located near the centre of Weston-Super-Mare; with the town train station only 200m away with good accessibility to the M5. Furthermore, Weston-Super-Mare is an incredibly vibrant, growing town community perfectly situated in the southwest region.

 

Development Timeline: 2021 - 2030

  • Pre Application Consultations - July/August 2021

    Prior to submitting an application for the first phase of the development, we engaged with key stakeholders and the local community taking on board your observations and comments.

  • Outline Planning Application (including detail on Block A (New Surgery)) - December 2021

    An outline planning application for the whole site (including details on Block A incorporating the Health Centre) was submitted after the consultation phase.

  • Detailed planning submission for clubhouse (phase one) - February 2022

    Detailed planning application was submitted on the remainder of phase one including the clubhouse. Consultation continued throughout the process.

  • Planning Consent Granted - November 2022

    Detailed planning was granted for Phase 1 comprising the Health Centre and Clubhouse, including external landscaping and a new access road.

  • Detailed planning application for remainder of the site (phase 2) - Summer 2027

    A detailed planning application will be submitted for phase two.

  • Construction Starts on Phase One - Autumn 2025

    Once all applications have been approved, the development will begin construction in Spring 2024.

  • Construction Starts on Phase Two - 2028

    Phase two of the site will begin construction in 2028.

  • Phase One Target Completion - Summer 2027

    Phase One, including clubhouse and health centre, is targeted to be complete by Summer 2027.

  • Development Completion - 2030

    The new homes will be available during 2030.
